Objectives To investigate the correlation between the AST/ALT ratio and arteriosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods The clinical data of 312 patients with type 2 diabetes hospitalized in Liaocheng People's Hospital from October 2021 to October 2023were retrospectively analyzed.According to the AST/ALT ratio and brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity(baPWV),the patients were divided into two groups:non-arteriosclerosis group(baPWV<1400 cm/s,n=95)and arteriosclerosis group(baPWV≥1 400 cm/s,n=217).According to the AST/ALT ra-tio,the patients were divided into three groups:low group Q1(≤0.93,n=107),middle group Q2(0.93~1.19,n=102)and high group Q3(≥1.19,n=103).Age,gender ratio, biochemical indicators,AST/ALT ratio,baPWV and other in-dicators were collected for statistical analysis.Results(1)The AST/ALT ratio was significantly higher in the arte-riosclerosis group than that in the non-arteriosclerosis group(P<0.05).(2)The AST/ALT ratio was positively as-sociated with baPWV,age and disease duration(r=0.541,0.496,0.312,P<0.01).(3)After adjusting for potential con-founders,logistic regression analysis showed that AST/ALT ratio was an independent risk factor for arteriosclerosis in T2DM patients(OR:26.866,95%CI:7.287~99.049,P<0.01).(4)The ROC curve showed that the area under the curve of AST/ALT ratio in predicting atherogenesis in T2DM patients was 0.765(95%CI:0.712~0.819,P<0.01).Yoden index was 0.435,the critical value was 1.01,the sensitivity was 0.677,and the specificity was 0.758.Conclusions AST/ALT ratio may be a simple and practical indicator to predict the risk of atherosclerosis in patients with T2DM.
